Miscellaneous
Some irrelevant personal facts:
I am an amateur photographer with a huge passion for urban landscapes and those who give life to them.
Given my training in economic theory, my approach to photography is to identify the shapes, lighting, and colors that best convey the essence of the moment and (hopefully) capture a bit of the subject's soul. As with theoretical models, in photography, what is left out of the picture is as important as the pixels in the image itself.
I keep a playlist to get into character before presenting or teaching. Currently, it includes (among others) Babel (Carlos Vives ft. Fito Paez), Rock (Olamide), Commas (Arya Starr), The Greatest (Billie Eilish), Sunset (Caroline Polachek), Hot to Go (Chappell Roan), Hoy me voy al Sol (Bizarrap ft. Milo J), and Survival (Muse).
My ultimate goal is to broaden my understanding of human creativity and the factors that lead people to become prolific creators in their areas of expertise.
I have been particularly influenced and inspired by the works of my co-nationals Gabriel García-Márquez, Carlos Vives, and Shakira (who, coincidentally, are originally from the same region I grew up), as well as by Virgil Abloh, Thom Browne, Bizarrap, Lucian Freud, Kurt Gödel, Felix Hausdorff, Fan Ho, Rei Kawakubo, Stanley Kubrick, Lee McQueen, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Iris van Herpen, Diego Velazquez, Giuseppe Verdi, and a plethora of other serial creators of bright ideas.
The democratization of the means of content distribution (brought by the rise of social media and other platforms) makes this landscape more exciting than ever.
A very special place is reserved for Çağatay Kayı, Stephane Wolton, and my advisors (David, Luis, and Dan), who have mentored me at different stages of my career.
I have had the fortune of sharing with amazing colleagues at different points in my career. They have not only helped me expand my understanding of social phenomena, but this journey could not have been enjoyable without them. My greatest appreciation goes (in alphabetical order and in no way exhaustively) to Andrea Atencio, Victor Augias, Henrique Castro-Pires, Xiaoyu Chen, Michele Costa, Théo Durandard, Chiara Garbellini, Haritz Garro, Alkis Georgiadis-Harris, Atulya Jain, Shaofei Jiang, Nil Karacaoglu, Yimeng Li, Qianjun Lyu, Carlo Medici, Edwin Muñoz-Rodríguez, Francesco Pagani, Sanket Patil, Julieth Pico, Francisco Poggi, German Pulido, Rosina Rodríguez-Olivera, Ritwika Sen, Greg Sheen, Lorenzo Stanca, Miguel Talamas, Udayan Vaidya, Daniela Vidart, Boli Xu, Ruozhou Yan, Yimeng Zhang, and Gabriel Ziegler.
I have played guitar since I was 6 years old, and I have not improved much since then. I mainly play vallenatos, a taste I inherited from my parents.
Although I am embarrassingly bad at learning new languages, I still aspire to grasp a few other Romance languages.
I aim (and tend) not to take myself or my ideas too seriously.
